EDUCATION

Music plays an integral part in children’s lives - music sparks the imagination, fosters community and inclusivity, encourages conversations, teaches critical thinking, and nurtures self-expression. For these reasons, accessible children’s performances have become a core value of Austin Camerata.

Austin Camerata has partnered with BookPeople to offer free musical storytime performances to Austin families. Each performance pairs both cherished and newly published children’s books with imaginative pieces of music performed by a live string quartet. Instrument Petting Zoos are offered at the end of each performance, giving kiddos the chance to strum and bow the violin (the highest of the string family) to the cello (the loooooowest of the string family).

Austin Camerata’s educational initiatives extend into the classroom. Over the years, Austin Camerata has presented concerts at:

  • Austin Public Library: Ruiz and Cepeda branches

  • UT Elementary School

  • Dell Children's Hospital

  • EA Prep High School

  • Blackshear Elementary School

  • Hernandez Middle School

  • Covington Middle School

If you believe your school program would benefit from and educational collaboration with Austin Camerata, please send an email to info@austincamerata.org.

“I just wanted to thank you again for playing at UTES today! The teachers and kiddos loved it, and you all played beautifully. One teacher told me that she loved that the kids didn’t have a book/illustration to look at [for Babar the Elephant] as it means they are really using their imagination. She said she wanted to reread the book to her students now.”
