Ventana Ballet & Austin Camerata hit the stage again together in Variations on Love Theme, but it’s not just another Valentine’s show for love-struck couples. Love is indeed the underscored theme, but everyone knows love presents itself in many non-romantic forms, too. These two local performing arts companies invite guests—singles, couples, and groups alike—to join them at First Street Studio Theater on February 9th and 10th, as they share six different love stories, drawing inspiration from The 5 Love Languages and The 8 Types of Love.

The evening's performance features eleven enchanting musical works by Debussy, Piazzolla, Radiohead, and more. Austin Camerata’s string quartet will present all works, live and in an immersive setting, just feet away from their guests. Ventana Ballet joins the musicians onstage for six of these pieces to tell six different love stories, through dance: The Love of the Past, The Love of Passion, The Lifelong Love, The Quest for Love, The Forbidden Love, and The Love Triangle.

Daniel Kopp, the Artistic Director of Austin Camerata said, “We have had the great opportunity to collaborate with Ventana Ballet on many different projects before, so when they approached us and asked if we’d be their valentine this year, we couldn’t say no.”

The performances take place at First Street Studio, an East Austin performing-arts-workspace-turned-white-box-theater and home to Ventana Ballet. Guests are invited and encouraged to arrive when the doors open 30 minutes before each showtime. The pre-show reception encourages guests to indulge in complimentary refreshments while enjoying the delightful serenade of a live pianist. Inside the main studio, guest seating is provided surrounding the performance area where Austin Camerata and Ventana Ballet will perform. There will be two shows per night, and the show run time is approx. 1 hour.
